IIT Guwahati tracks 36,000 vehicles by drone to build Indian traffic models
IIT Guwahati researchers filmed an eight-lane highway on the edge of Delhi with drones, tracking more than 36,000 vehicles and about 9 million vehicle positions. The team, led by Prof. Akhilesh K Maurya, used the data to build mathematical and machine-learning models of how speed changes with traffic density on mixed Indian roads. The study is published in the International Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems Research and is aimed at road design, signal control and traffic management.
